The Christians Rewards

“Rewards”

1. God himself is our greatest reward.

After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
(Genesis 15:1)

See backround in 14:21-23

A.W. Pink
God never permits His own to lose for honoring Him and seeking His glory. Abram had refused the spoil of Sodom, but God more than makes it up to him. ………….
How much are the Lord’s people losing today because of their acceptance of the world’s favors! Unto how few can the Lord now reveal Himself as He did here to Abram!

2. There is reward for service in the kingdom of God.

And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.
(Numbers 18:31)

[John Gill]
for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation; which is said to encourage them in their work, and animate them to it, as well as to clear their right to such a maintenance against all objections; for the labourer is worthy of his reward, as those that labour in the word and doctrine are of theirs, 1Ti_5:17.

1Ti 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

3. There is a reward for the wicked.

{A} The Wicked are rewarded as the enemies and haters of God.

If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
(Deuteronomy 32:41)

{B} They are rewarded according to their wickedness. Perfect justice!

“the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.”
(2 Samuel 3:39)

{C} This shall be done on the basis of truth.

He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
(Psalms 54:5)

{D} This reward will in no way harm or effect the people of God.

Psa 91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
(Psalms 91:8)

{E} They are judged because of their pride.

Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
(Psalms 94:2)

George Gordon Liddy, Watergate conspirator when recently released from prison: "I have found within myself all I need and all I ever shall need. I am a man of great faith, but my faith is in George Gordon Liddy. I have never failed me."
The Christian Century, Sept. 28, 1977, p. 836.
-----------
A. Lincoln, Proclamation of a day of National Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer, 1863.
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.”
What Would he say today?

{F} They will receive exactly as their hands have wrought.

Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
(Isaiah 3:11)

{G} It will be according to their doings.

And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
(Hosea 4:9)

{H} It will be their due reward.

The Dying Theif

And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
(Luke 23:41)

Judas

Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
(Acts 1:18)

Those who love sin

And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
(2 Peter 2:13)

4. There is a full reward for those who trust in the Lord.

Boaz speaking to Ruth;

The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
(Ruth 2:12)

5. There is reward for knowing and keeping the Word of God.

Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
(Psalms 19:11)

F. Carolan
Information, without proper application leads to stagnation!

1Co 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

6. There is a reward for the righteous.

{A} The reward of the righteous is based on the character of God as the righteous judge.

So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.
(Psalms 58:11)

In other words, as truly as God is judge there is a reward for the righteous.

{B} It is a sure reward.

The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
(Proverbs 11:18)

{C} These rewards of the righteous are based on the individual’s service.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
(1 Corinthians 3:8)

If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
(1 Corinthians 3:14)

7. Children are a reward from the Lord.

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
(Psalms 127:3)

This is an important fact to assert in light of modern attitudes towards children.

We have two extreme views in the world today regarding children which are not based upon God’s truth.

1) Children are not responsible. (ie Rights rather than responsibility)

2) Children are disposable. (ie Abortion)

In an article dealing with,
Abortion Statistics and Trends over the Past Thirty Years
In America
Entitled
Out of the Long Dark Night
By Randall K. O'Bannon, Ph.D.NRL-ETF Director of Education & Research
While the number of abortions skyrocketed when abortion was legalized in 1973, peaking at 1.6 million in 1990, fortunately the annual totals have since steadily declined. Today, that death toll is believed to be in the neighborhood of 1.3 million. All told, NRLC projects that there have been over 43 million unborn babies that have lost their lives since the U.S. Supreme Court made Roe v. Wade (and its companion case Doe v. Bolton) the law of the land.
Abortion Statistics in the UK.
In 2004, for women resident in England and Wales:
· the total number of abortions was 185,400, compared with 181,600 in 2003, a rise of 2.1%
· the age-standardised abortion rate was 17.8 per 1,000 resident women aged 15-44 (17.5 in 2003)
· the abortion rate was highest, at 31.9 per 1000, for women in the 18-19 and 20-24 age groups
· the under-16 abortion rate was 3.7 compared with 3.9 in 2003. The under-18 rate was 17.8 compared with 18.2 in 2003
· 82% of abortions were funded by the NHS; of these, just over half (51%) took place in the independent sector under NHS contract
· 88% of abortions were carried out at under 13 weeks gestation; 60% were at under 10 weeks
· medical abortions accounted for 19% of the total compared with 17% in 2003
· 1,900 abortions (1%) were under ground E, risk that the child would be born handicapped

And these two nations have the hypocrisy to talk of the problems in Iraq.

Irish Abortion statistics

From the Irish Family planning association.

Between January 1980 and December 2004, at least 117,673 women travelled from Ireland for abortion services in Britain. There are no statistics to account for the number of women who travel to other countries for abortion services.

8. It is in this life that our rewards are decided.

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5)

Lets not waste our time in this world!
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
(Ephesians 5:16)

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
(Colossians 4:5)

No Time to Play
My precious boy with the golden hairCame up one day beside my chairAnd fell upon his bended kneeAnd said, “Oh, Mommy, please play with me!”
I said, “Not now, go on and play;I’ve got so much to do today.”He smiled through tears in eyes so blueWhen I said, “We’ll play when I get through.”
But the chores lasted all through the dayAnd I never did find time to play. When supper was over and dishes done,I was much too tired for my little son.
I tucked him in and kissed his cheekAnd watched my angel fall asleep. As I tossed and turned upon my bed,Those words kept ringing in my head,
“Not now, son, go on and play,I’ve got so much to do today.”I fell asleep and in a minute’s span,My little boy is a full-grown man.
No toys are there to clutter the floor; No dirty fingerprints on the door;No snacks to fix; no tears to dry;The rooms just echo my lonely sigh.
And now I’ve got the time to play; But my precious boy is gone away.I awoke myself with a pitiful screamAnd realized it was just a dream
For across the room in his little bed,Lay my curly-haired boy, the sleepy-head.My work will wait ‘til another dayFor now I must find some time to play.
Dianna (Mrs. Joe) Neal.

Mar 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

9. The Lord will reward his people when he returns.

{A} It is the the central reason for the Lord’s return to this world.

Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
(Isaiah 40:10)

Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
(Isaiah 62:11)

Note:

We have here another evidence for the deity of Christ.

For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
(Matthew 16:27)

{B} None of God’s people will be left out.

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
(Revelation 11:18)

{C} This reward will be a personal between Christ and his people.

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
(Revelation 22:12)

10. There is great reward as a result of persecution

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
(Matthew 5:12)

Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
(Luke 6:23)

[10 b.] Those who persecute the Saints will receive a just reward.

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
(Revelation 18:6)

11. In order to be rewarded by God we must rise to a higher level of obedience than the world knows or practices.

{A} Our love must be different than the world’s.

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
(Matthew 5:46)

{B} Our giving must be different than the world’s.

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
(Matthew 6:1)

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
(Matthew 6:2)

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
(Matthew 6:4)

{C} Our Praying must be different than the World.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
(Matthew 6:5)

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
(Matthew 6:6)

{D} Our fasting must be different than the world.

Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
(Matthew 6:16)

That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
(Matthew 6:18)

{E} Our relationship to our enemies must be different to the world’s.

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
(Luke 6:35)

12. There is reward for treating God’s people with honour and love.

He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
(Matthew 10:41)

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
(Matthew 10:42)

For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
(Mark 9:41)

Let us be careful how we treat One Another.

Joh 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Joh 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Rom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

Rom 15:7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

2Co 13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.

Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

13. False Religious ideologies can rob us of our reward.

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
(Colossians 2:18)

14. We must choose between the riches of this world and the rewards of Christ’s kingdom.

Speaking of Moses

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
(Hebrews 11:26)

15. The basis or ground of reward is service to Christ.

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
(Colossians 3:24)

16. We need to remain confident in the Lord in order not to lose our reward.

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
(Hebrews 10:35)

17. We need to constantly examine our own selves in order that we might not lose our reward.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
(2 John 1:8)
